OLDING THE BUDGET IN CHECK:
There are so many ways to create a wonderful space for your nursery, and by using
a little creativity, you can make it a wonderful space that will grow with your baby.
Using this same creativity may help you to not spend a really great deal of money.
There are also many places, even on the Internet to purchase quality items at bargain
prices. Investing too heavily from day one in your nursery may not be the best
way for you to go. Of course, you want the safest bed possible and furniture which can
possibly continue to be used as your baby advances into the toddling years.
You're going to go through a lot of changes before your child grows up and
moves out on his own. All children move from babyhood to toddler-hood to the mischievous
years and into being a pre-teen with only minor challenges to their rooms. If you aren't
careful, the money you spend on your child's room during these early years could equal
adding another floor onto your house or cover most of his college career. That might
be a bit of an exaggeration, but... I can only remember my own experiences with a thoughtful grin.
The furniture is the basic cost in the room, and with a little ingenuity and
imagination, you could quite possibly make the furniture you start with last through the
pre-teen years---at least. This furniture could also come from very bargain places and be
turned into family heirlooms with a little imagination and creativity.
For instance, find a dresser that is the right height for changing your baby and
put a changing pad on top. This dresser could come from a flea market, antique
market, yard sale or wherever---maybe your parents' attic. Redo the piece and
put attractive hardware on it (the hardware makes it look expensive), and you've
created a great piece that could last your child for many years to come.
Imagination and creativity are two of the ingredients that go a long way toward
keeping the budget in check. A little luck with finding goodies plays a bit of a
role, too. If you keep digging, you'll come up with some treasures and create a
truly wonderful space for your child without totally emptying the family bank
account.
